Jakarta, 20 December 2024 – The Development Café Engages Students at Anatomia Nocturna, i3L’s Biomedicine Gathering Night

The Development Café (DevCAFE) was invited to present at Anatomia Nocturna, i3L’s annual biomedicine gathering, as part of its ongoing capacity-building initiatives aimed at fostering collaboration between academia, research, and global development. Viona Harjuni, Junior Researcher at DevCAFE, introduced the organization’s core pillars—research for development, innovation and ICT for development (ICT4D), and capacity development—highlighting how these intersect with the field of biomedicine to create impactful global solutions.

“Biomedicine plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between scientific innovation and public policy, ultimately shaping a healthier and more equitable future,” Harjuni emphasized in her presentation.

During her talk, she underscored the pivotal role of biomedicine in areas such as prevention, policy-making, and emergency response, demonstrating its direct impact on global healthcare systems and public health outcomes.

In line with DevCAFE’s mission, students were introduced to opportunities such as mentorship, internships, and interdisciplinary research programs aimed at fostering innovation and making a tangible impact in biomedicine and international development. The students expressed strong interest in exploring research areas such as infectious diseases, drug development, medical devices, medical microbiology, molecular oncology, and the use of AI in science, reflecting their desire to expand their knowledge and contribute to advancements in diverse biomedicine-related fields.

Following the presentation, students had the chance to engage with DevCAFE colleagues at the booth, further exploring the organization’s research and initiatives. This interaction reflected their eagerness to contribute to cutting-edge biomedicine projects and deepen their academic and professional development. Faculty members from i3L shared that students are actively seeking internships to support their career growth, studies, and hands-on experience in relevant fields. Faculty members from i3L also expressed interest in potential collaborations that benefit the students, particularly in biomedicine-focused internships and research.
